The feature race on day 3 of Glorious Goodwood is the Group 1 Nassau Stakes. It’s run over 1m2f and is exclusive to fillies and mares aged 3 years and above. The card for the race is now available on today’s racecards – so let’s jump in.

It’s another small field, with 5 set to go to post. Current favourite is 3-year-old Whirl (1/1) who is 2 from 2 over the 1m2f trip. She is closely followed by See The Fire (2/1) who has only won 1 of her 6 starts over this distance and as a 4-year-old will be carrying 9lbs more than Whirl, Bedtime Story (11/2) and Cercene (9/1). Bedtime Story and Cercene are yet to record a win over the 1m2f trip, and 5-year-old Running Lion (33/1) has won once. The only horse to have run at the track before is See The Fire which was when finishing 2nd in the same race last year.

Topping our THM Score last time out is Whirl, who posted an 836 at the Curragh on Good ground when beating Kalpana. Kalpana has run since, coming 2nd to Calandagan last weekend in the King George at Ascot. Kalpana achieved a score of 845 for this endeavour which has certainly franked this form. Whirl has a lovely profile, posting improving scores run on run.

See The Fire has posted into the 800’s in her last two runs, but these were both posted on Good To Firm Ground. Her highest score on today’s ground conditions, Good, is 757. That being said, she does have that all important Goodwood run under her belt unlike the others and has proven she can perform there.

Bedtime Story broke into the 800’s for the first time last time out, and this was on Good To Soft ground, so she’ll certainly appreciate a little chop under foot if it’s available. Cercene also posted a personal best last time out when beating French superstar Zarigana at Royal Ascot. She was a huge price that day so it will be interesting to see if she can back this up with another solid performance. Running Lion will need to improve on his recent runs and is understandably the market outsider. But that didn’t stop Qirat yesterday when causing a huge upset in the Sussex Stakes at 150/1.

Finally a quick check of our Average Speed Analysis. We can see that last time out, the speed figures are perfectly aligned to the market, with Whirl coming out on top after running 1.95kph faster than the THM Standard average, followed by See The Fire, Bedtime Story, Cercene and Running Lion.
